Riding into Budapest, several cyclists said "hello" to us first, two people asked where we were from, several motorists stopped and beckoned us across the street, and a young woman we asked about a ferry went out of her way to use Google Translate to help us.
I think I'm gonna like it here.
Louise likes Budapest, too. Norbert, the genius mechanic at Bringaboard Bicycles, finally diagnosed and fixed the creak in her bottom bracket (which has plagued her since Missouri), serviced her rear hub, and put on new pedals (my third pair on this trip). I've asked at least six mechanics to look at her creaking, and even installed a whole new bottom bracket back in Passau. But Norbert was the first one to listen to her closely and give her enough lubricant and torque to silence her cries for help.
When I grow up, I want to be a bike mechanic like Norbert.
Crazy that you've got through so many sets of pedals. What fails? The bearings?
