Today, I finished my pedal around the planet, setting the Guinness World Record for oldest woman to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle (pending Guinness' approval).
My homecoming was epic, thanks to all my fantastic friends who turned out to party like the rockstars they are.
The day started with members of my cycling team, Partners in Climb, surprising me with a gorgeous breakfast in the redwoods at Samuel P. Taylor State Park, where I had camped the night before.
Then my coach, Marissa Axell, and other friends joined our posse for the ride into San Francisco.
My finish line was at Sunset Dunes, where the Sunset Community Band had the place bumping with a tight rendition of "California, Here I Come." Friends cheered. Unicorns danced. Even our SF Board of Supervisors rep, Chyanne Chen, was there and bestowed a fancy certificate upon me.
It was all too much, which is to say absolutely perfect, and I am so tickled I could just bust.
I'm writing a book about my adventures. That might take a minute, and so in the meantime, I'll be sharing out my daily diary entries and trenchant how-to videos on things I learned the hard way, like treating giant centipede bites and avoiding dog attacks.
So stay tuned. Alana Lee from Tennessee is back and popping with things to say and gratitude to give.
