When we roll through villages, children rush to the road and call out, "Bye-bye!" and "Hello!" Many will run after us; some offer up their hands for high-fives. Giggles abound.

Adults will respond in kind to "Sabaidee," but rarely initiate.

Adolescents are a mixed bag.

And it makes me a little sad, all over again, that part of growing up is losing enthusiasm for small novelties.
