East Kentucky was all-consuming, both physically and psychologically, and so I fell far behind on this blog. Many apologies, and rest assured that I will add those entries in due time.
For now, I am resting for a day in Troutville, VA, which is just outside of Roanoke.
The day started with a banana on which the rural convenience store clerk had written, "I love you." A recent immigrant from Nepal, the clerk had written sweet messages on all the bananas. Sometimes, people just slay me.
The ride itself featured well-to-do farms in rolling countryside, with the Blue Ridge Moutains bluing on the horizon. I spied the first Biden-Harris yard sign I've seen since California (unless you count the large "Fuck Biden" banner hanging across a barn outside Damascus, VA). From Arizona to here has been wall-to-wall Trump. More on that in past posts I haven't written yet, but the upshot is that much of America feels very foreign to me, despite my Southern upbringing and attempts to remain connected to my roots. I'm not sure who has changed more.
